How to get to Tromsø?

When you begin planning your visit to Tromso, you have several travel options.

Airplane: Tromsø Airport Langnes (TOS) is a short 3 minute drive from the city centre. With connections to all major cities in Norway, you have plenty of travel options to choose from when planning your trip.

Domestic flights from Oslo to Tromsø have approximately 1:40 flight time.

Domestic flight carriers are: SAS, Widerøe and Norwegian.

International flights direct to Tromsø are from London Gatwick, Oulu/Luleå, Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Boat: The famous Hurtigruten boats are operational all year round, with two stops in Tromsø each day.

These boats connect Northern Norway and allow you to explore several cities and enjoy the scenery and wildlife from the comfort of the ship.

Train: Trains are a little tricky once you get past Bodø, however you can combine both the boat and buses with train travel to enjoy a scenic travel experience. There are some great tips on how to do so here.

You can buy bus tickets at the following locations: Troms fylkestrafikk Customer Service Centrev (Samuel Arnesens gate 5), WITO-kiosk (Storgata 68), Narvesen Stortorget (Main Square in Tromsø city centre), Jekta Storsenter – Information counter, Narvesen K1, Narvesen UNN (University Hospital of Northern Norway), MIX Kiosk – UiT The Arctic University of Norway and Narvesen Krokensentret.

Rental Cars & Camper vans: If you are visiting Tromso on a budget, then this is not the best option. However having your own vehicle allows you to explore freely and hunt the Northern Lights at your own pace. For this reason hiring a car or camper van can be a fantastic option. There are several great hire car companies in Tromsø.

Remember, driving rules and regulations are strict in Norway, and winter road conditions can be unpredictable if you are not used to driving on snow and ice. Take plenty of time to plan your journey, and always look out for moose and reindeer!

Taxi: This is the most costly option for travel around Tromsø. But also very convenient.

Getting to our Kennel

When you book a tour with us, transport to and from the kennel is provided from the city centre. We also welcome guests who are travelling with their own car. We have plenty of parking available at the kennel, and it is a beautiful scenic drive. For those who are aurora hunters, our kennel is located 30 minutes from the city, so you are far enough away from the light pollution that you can enjoy a fantastic display after your tour.

Bus: Number 420 runs from the city centre to just outside the kennel. This bus runs every hour, but has a reduced service on weekends.
