Meet our Arctic Family
Since starting Arctic Adventure Tours in 1999, we have welcomed people from all over the world into our kennel and into our lives.
A great team makes a great kennel. So we are proud to introduce our staff:
Andrea – Kennel Manager, Maintenance and Guide
Andrea is our interim kennel manager from Italy. Our personal builder and one-stop shop for all things carpentry to product design.
He is always busy in the background, fixing ganglines, sleds and maintaining the kennel to the highest standard. Full of ideas and plans to back them up, if you need to build anything then Andrea is your guy! In addition to this, he is a super capable guide, no one knows the mountain trails better!
If he ever has a spare you will find him brewing his own beer!
Sophia – Guide, handler & dog expert
Sophia has been with us for many years both as a guide and kennel manager. Originally from Germany, she studied Equine Science and Management, then went on to work with horses in Iceland before finding dog sledding.
Now qualified in Canine Physiotherapy, she is now our “go to expert” for the well being of our huskies.
Sophia has competed in several dog sledding races, but has now decided that assisting others to race is more for her. Her main passion is the care and welfare of the dogs, and she is happiest changing straw in the dog houses and training our youngsters.
Paulina – Dog Handler and Guide
Paulina is from Poland. She first came to us in 2019 for a summer season and the seed was planted. First, it started with getting her own dog, Taco, in honour of one of our huskies but that still wasn’t enough to quash the pull to work with dogs in the Arctic.
Amidst the pandemic, Paulina decided to quit her corporate career and move her dog and fiancé up to Tromsø to enjoy a different way of life.
We can certainly rely on her to get things done around the kennel, especially as our meat saw expert. She is hands on, practical and loves all the seasons here, especially winter.
Richard – Dog Handler and Guide
Richard is from Slovakia and came to Arctic Adventure Tours as guide in 2022. With his experience and great knowledge of and passion for dogs, sledding and guiding there was no doubt that we wanted him back as a part of our team in winter 2023. We are so lucky that he now is a part of our permanent staff.
Richard loves climbing and you will for sure find him in the climbing gym outside of work – and in summer climbing one mountain after another. Richard’s outdoor hobbies and his great love of dogs means that he fits perfectly into the kennel and on the sledding trails. He is not afraid of working hard, be in lead of getting things done and making sure that dogs are taking good care of, also after work.
Mia – Dog handler, guide and office assistant
Mia is our office assistant, handler and guide and has been with us since november 2023. Growing up in the countryside in Denmark, dogs and farmer life has always been a natural part of her life. A dog sledding tour as a tourist in Alta in Norway in Christmas 2022 made her curious on the possibilities on working with dogs fulltime. Several tours later and trying out internships in different kennels, she found her way to Tromsø and Arctic Adventure Tours.
She is keen to learn a lot about sledding and sled dogs and you can be sure to find her giving kisses to the dogs when she is in the yard. From her earlier jobs and time as self employed Mia also has experience with websites and other digital skills that is needed in the office.
