LOCAL KNOWLEDGE • EXPERIENCE • TRUST
Local Knowledge Makes the Difference
Many Northern Lights tours begin when the bus leaves the city. Ours begins at our base in Tromsø Harbour.
Here, you meet your guide, get equipped for the Arctic conditions and prepare for the evening ahead. It is also where the experience ends, bringing you back to the city with new memories, photographs and stories from the Arctic night.
Our guiding team is now entering its third season together. Combined with years of experience working in Arctic tourism, they bring local knowledge, calm judgement and a genuine passion for sharing the landscapes we call home. Every season, we continue to learn, improve and refine the experience, always looking for new ways to create better evenings for our guests.
Seeing the Northern Lights is one of our main goals every night. We always do our best to find the best possible conditions and make informed decisions throughout the tour. But the Arctic is wild, weather changes quickly and no two evenings are ever the same.
That is why every tour is shaped by the conditions we encounter along the way. Sometimes the lights appear early. Sometimes patience becomes part of the experience. Either way, our guides use their experience, local knowledge and understanding of the region to make the most of every opportunity the night offers.
With a maximum of 15 guests, warm food, hot drinks and snacks included, we focus on creating evenings that feel personal, flexible and memorable.
Because great Northern Lights experiences are not only about what happens in the sky, but about the people, places and moments that make each night unique.
What to Expect
Welcome to Our Tromsø Harbour Base
Meet your guide at our base in Tromsø Harbour. Here you receive warm clothing, winter boots and a briefing for the evening ahead. We take time to prepare properly before heading out into the Arctic night.
Into the Arctic Night
Once on the road, your guide follows the latest weather forecasts, cloud cover and aurora activity. Every evening is different. Sometimes we stay close to Tromsø. Other nights we travel far into the Arctic landscape in search of clearer skies.
Along the way, we share stories about local life, Arctic nature and the Northern Lights phenomenon itself.
Nature, campfire, stories and Northern Lights
When conditions allow, we stop in carefully selected locations away from city lights. Here we serve warm food, hot drinks and snacks while waiting for darkness to reveal what the night has in store.
Some evenings the aurora appears as a soft green glow. Other nights it dances across the entire sky. No two displays are ever the same.
The Journey home to Tromsø
As the evening comes to an end, we return to Tromsø Harbour. Whether the sky has been filled with Northern Lights or the Arctic night has offered something different, most guests leave with photographs, stories and a deeper connection to the North.
NATURE BASED · FAMILY RUN · 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Our Northern Light Team
For more than 25 years, Arctic Adventure Tours has been built around the same idea: great dog sledding starts with healthy dogs, experienced people and guests who feel genuinely welcome.
Our kennel on Kvaløya is home to around 130 Alaskan Huskies and has been cared for by Per-Thore, Hege and their team since 1999. Many of the dogs are born here, grow up here and spend their lives as part of the kennel family.
We keep our groups small, take time with our guest and focus on creating authentic experiences that feel personal rather than rushed.
For us, dog sledding is not simply an activity. It is a way of life built on responsibility, respect and a deep connection to the dogs we work with every day - all year around.
